I cannot believe my little girl is now sweet sixteen
She is changing from my little princess into a beauty queen
It seems like only yesterday I was wiping her snotty nose
Now she is so pretty like a flowering rose

Sixteen must be marvelous to be sixteen was I ever sixteen suppose I must have been sixteen a long time ago
Searching my memory I remember somethings about being sixteen nice things, nasty things some high and some low
I remember the excitement of a life to be planned and of course back then my plan would be superb
I remember plans what happened to them often my excitement my parents would curb
But I suppose that is part of being sixteen plans to be made and plans never seen
So make your plans it is part of being sixteen make them with friends and make them alone remember to make them exciting and bold
And as the future continues to unfold remember those plans you made when you were 16 years old
I can foretell the main plan for today to have a wonderful birthday

Why is sweet attached to the age of sixteen why not sweet fifteen, seventeen or nineteen and why sweet
If I attached a pre word to seventeen - say a word such as neat
Will that catch on and will I become famous
Or just be considered an ignoramus

Almost grown up but not quite there
In between child and adult it seems unfair
Not old enough to drink in the pub
Never mind have a soak in the tub
Not old enough to vote in the country elections
