Food poems are birthday poems written for the person who loves food, wine or dieting. They are ideal for accompanying a gift of food or wine or a greeting or gift card.

For survival we really do have to eat
Well I like food so that is really neat
But the calories allowed in the daily count
Is just not enough it’s a measly amount

So on pile the pounds it does not take long
Very soon you find lumps and the thin bits gone
So out come the diet books salad and water
You empty the fridge of the things that you aught’a

Out come the scales you check your weight every day
You really should go to the gym to help the fat go away
Every new diet you scan hoping you will find
It will allow tasty food of the calorie kind

You get tired of feeling hungry and alcohol free
It’s pointless socializing so your friends you no longer see
You drop a few pounds so relax and go out
Back come those pounds it’s like a roundabout

Something in between that’s what I will settle for
As long as I am healthy I will not diet any more
I will do healthy eating and limit the sugary food
Because as I get older I know I really should

I know your favorite pastime is to dine

You will leave your main course as soon as dessert is on the go
So birthdays are special to you because as you know
A birthday cake will be around you just wait for it to show
